At Avant Guard Gates, we provide a true end-to-end service, from custom design and fabrication to installation, maintenance and repair. This means we have control over all aspects of every project, so you can rest assured that quality is never compromised. We also carry products from leading manufacturers from around the world. We are authorized distributors for Hy Security- Linear, BFT Gate Motors and Gate Openers , Comunello, Liftmaster, Chamberlain, Hi Motions, Beninca, FAAC, and OSCO. We carry access systems such as keypads, telephone entry, card readers, and intercoms.

Our maintenance and repair teams are available in the lower Mainland and Vancouver Island24/7 for any emergencies that may arise. This means that support for any gate issues you’re facing is just a phone call away.

Custom fabrication

Our custom fabrication services cover design, technical drawings, fabrication and installation, allowing us to meet the specific needs of your project. We can work in stainless steel, aluminum or black steel. Whether it’s adding a personal touch or tailoring a solution to a specific environment, our expert team, including in-house metal works, will get the job done right.

Part of the community

We not only take the business of security to heart, but are also enthusiastic supporters of the local community. Avant Guard Gates supports multiple youth sports teams, adult soccer teams, Kid Sport (TM), and prostate cancer research through Vancouver General Hospital.

Employee Bios

Vince – Owner
Vince has a diploma from BCIT in Engineering, but he discovered his true passion after a stint with CGA courses, when he founded Avant Guard Gates & Access Controls in January of 2000. Over the years he has added to the company by integrating other similar companies, and supplementing Avant Guard’s slate of products with steel bending services. Avant Guard has grown to be the largest gate automation company in the province, and Vince continues to enjoy the challenge of supplying European-quality products and services to his customers.
Martin – Shop Foreman
Martin brings talent and creativity to the Avant Guard team. His welding experience enables him to guide the shop and the fabricators, while his ability with CAD drawings enables him to design electrical diagrams efficiently. But he especially shines when he displays his artistic ingenuity, designing one-of-a-kind gates, railings, and restaurant logo panels – even coat racks!
Vic – Project Manager / Sales
Sales is Vic’s forte, and after 35 years in the gate and fence industry, he remains laser-focused on satisfied customers. His drafting skills transform a customer’s dreams into a shop drawing for the fabricators. In his spare time, he enjoys travel, jogging and home projects with Sue, his wife of 25+ years.
Andrew – Technician
Family man Andrew has been a Technician with Avant Guard for over 20 years. Andrew is our expert on intercom and telephone based systems, and is an invaluable member of our team. In his spare time, Andrew spends time with his twin sons, looking forward to teaching them his soccer and refereeing skills.
Paul – Technician
Paul came all the way from South Africa to work for us. With many years of gates and trades work under his belt, Paul is a valued member of our team.
Nic – Technician
Nic is our newest technician coming to us with 15 years of electrical experience. In his spare time he is a wine and beer connoisseur.
Merril – Technician
Merril comes to us with over 15 years of experience in the gate industry, and now over 8 years with us. Outside of work, Merril’s hobbies include slo-pitch, hockey, and holidays in Mexico.
Kyle – Technician
Kyle joined our team simply because he needed a job. However, over the years he has proven himself to be a talented and methodical technician, solving problems that had stumped others and completing jobs in record time. Kyle spends his spare time rebuilding cars for fun.
Kevin – Project Manager / Sales
With an engaging British accent, Kevin rapidly made himself indispensable at Avant Guard with his innate ability to “wear many hats.” Whether helping count inventory, organizing company social events, or handling inside sales, he combines his love for people with his experience in electronics to help customers choose the automation system that best suits their needs.
Hazel – Office Manager
Hazel joined us at a tumultuous time. She quickly dove head-on into her work, learning quickly and being proactive with her work. In the years following her joining our team, she has made herself irreplaceable. She now handles all the bookkeeping as well as invoicing and managing the office.
